Head praises 'role model' pupil as she secures Cambridge place
A TODMORDEN High School student is celebrating after securing her place at one of the world's top universities.
Rebecca Senior, 18, will study at King's College, Cambridge, after gaining three A* grades and an A in her A Level exams.
"I'm really pleased," she said. "I'm not the kind of person to get complacent and I was really really nervous about getting my results but now I'm really looking forward to going to Cambridge."
Rebecca will study for a degree in biological natural sciences after getting top grades in her maths, biology, chemistry and physics exams.
She said she has enjoyed her time at Todmorden High School and thanked the teachers for their support.
"The ability to succeed lies in the person, not the school, so it doesn't really matter where you go but I was really comfortable and happy at Todmorden High so I stayed here," she said.
"The teachers are really supportive and there's a lot of personal attention. In physics, I was the only one there but they kept running the course because I started it in Year 12.
"Thanks to all my teachers who have helped me."
Departing headteacher Patrick Ottley-O'Connor congratulated Rebecca on her achievement, saying he was very proud of her.
Mr Ottley-O'Connor said she is a role model for students in Todmorden.
Results day was also a memorable occasion for another pupil from Todmorden.
Kathy Ryland, 18, who attended North Halifax Grammar School, will be studying at Oxbridge after gaining the grades she required to secure her place.
She said: "I can't believe it to be honest. I'm so happy and it's such a relief."
