Hot stuff chilli challenge at school's Children in Need effort!
STUDENTS and staff got a bit hot under the collar for Children In Need last week as they held a seven-a-side chilli eating contest.
Seven members of staff, including the headteacher Patrick Ottley-O'Connor, took on seven sixth formers, who donned fancy-dress for the occasion during Todmorden High School's lunch break.
The daredevils took it in turns to eat ever-increasingly hot chillis, each with one glass of milk to combat the heat, and between them aimed to finish off the 40 mild and 80 hot chillis on offer in front of a cheering crowd.
The teachers won the day with Mike Smith munching his way through 11 chillies, only just pipping sixth former Oliver Challis, who ate 11 chillies, to victory.
The competition was the end of the school's Children In Need charity week, which raised 1,150 and also included biscuits and cakes for sale at break times, a non-uniform day, with fancy-dress for the sixth formers with Smurfs, Woody, a banana and Snow White making an appearance, and a guess how many lollipops in the jar competition.
Oliver Davy-Day, the senior school leader for fund-raising, said the sixth formers had all worked really hard to make sure the week was a success.
