AUTHOR Tom Palmer usually writes football themed adventures for children, but he hopes his Incredible Edible Story will find the onion bag.

After being approached by Incredible Edible Todmorden, Tom has penned a children’s book with the key message of sourcing food locally.

The book was launched at Todmorden Library on Friday, when he read the story to a group of pupils from Ferney Lee School.

“I enjoyed writing a story set in Todmorden because it has all the landmarks of the town in it,” he said. “It was brilliant to read the book to the children. Hopefully they will read it at home with their families.”

A copy of the book, which is illustrated by Juliet Breese and also contains recipes, will be given to every child at upper Calder Valley schools thanks to funding from the Community Foundation for Calderdale.

Rachel Julian, from the foundation, said: “It’s absolutely fantastic to be able to be involved in getting it out to all the schools.

“We really pleased to have been able to fund it and hope that lots of families enjoy it.”

Pam Warhurst, from IET, said: “Talented folk in Todmorden have come together with the Community Foundation for Calderdale to show children about healthy food and get them reading.

“It’s a double whammy from our point of view.

“If this is a success, we might think about doing another one next year.”
