Lessons in safety for youngsters
YOUNGSTERS from across Calderdale are receiving lessons in how to stay safe on the streets and in their homes from a range of emergency services.
Twenty nine schools are taking part in the sessions, which are being run at Todmorden Fire Station, Stansfield Road.
Over the next two weeks more than 900 youngsters, aged between 10 and 11, are being given a series of scenarios to complete, which require quick thinking, common sense and safety knowledge
Tasks include; learning which number is required to get the coast guard, the dangers of hoax calling and more.
Calderdale Youth and Schools Officer, PC Janet West said: "The aim is for the children to increase their awareness of danger and potential hazards and educate them into how to handle these situations.
"We hope our input will make the youngsters think about these and other situations and how they can keep themselves and others safe.
"I would like to thank everyone who has helped make this event possible."
The scheme is being run by Calderdale Police, and supported by; Calderdale Health Promotion, Calderdale Road Safety, Safer Schools Transport, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Coastguard, Metro/First bus and Safer to Schools Transport.
