'Let's do it annually': Church's Fairtrade cook-in is hailed a success

THE Upper Calder Methodist circuit of Churches from Todmorden to Luddenden held a very successful Fairtrade day in Todmorden's Central Methodist Church.

In the morning, there was a "cook-in" for children, who were able to bake chocolate buns, biscuits and crispies.

The lunch consisted of either soup or shepherd's pie and the products of the children's baking session.

In the afternoon, there was a fashion show, in which a number of people modelled clothes provided by the Spirals Fairtrade and eco store in Hebden Bridge and the Traidcraft organisation.

Throughout the day, there was a Fairtrade stall selling foodstuffs, gifts and items of clothing, and goods to the value of about 500 were sold.

This success has led to demands for it now to be made an annual event.
