Let's get the theatre fit for a Prince!

Roll up your sleeves and grab a duster this Sunday, and you could help get one of Todmorden's largest community buildings clean enough to be fit for a Prince!

That's the call to arms from members of Todmorden Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (TAODS), the community group that own and run the Hippodrome Theatre in Halifax Road.

The annual jobs day is when members, friends and helpers all join in to get the community owned Edwardian Hippodrome Theatre on Halifax Road ready for the new season.

"This year it is especially important to have the place looking its best" said Steve Clarkson of TAODS.

The Hippodrome will be visited by Prince Charles as part of the Royal Visit to Todmorden when he visits an Eco Kids event being run at the theatre on Wednesday.

"We're all really proud to have such a large community theatre in Todmorden and even though we hope everyone feels like royalty when they visit the Hippodrome we would really like to get it looking its best for the visit.

"The jobs will range from cleaning and polishing to painting and basic DIY jobs, so everyone is welcome and there will be jobs for all ages and abilities.

"On the day TAODS will also be cleaning the back street area of the theatre along with residents in a clean-up supported by Calderdale Council to help improve the whole area," said Steve.

Everyone is welcome at the Hippodrome for the clean-up, which runs from 9am on Sunday, September 5, with bacon butties promised for everyone who arrives by 9.30am, plus an endless supply of Fairtrade tea and coffee to keep volunteers working hard, said Steve.

There will also be a lunch for all the volunteers that is being kindly donated by Cherries Tearoom of Todmorden. There will be vegetarian options available.
