Police are appealing for witnesses after a car passenger suffered serious injuries after being punched following a car crash in Bradford.
The incident happened after a red Volkswagen Golf collided with a blue Vauxhall Zafira on Smiddles Lane at the junction with Manchester Road and Mayo Avenue at around 11.30pm on Friday, April 18. Only minor damage was caused to the Zafira, which was stationary at traffic lights at the time.
However, a verbal altercation has taken place outside the vehicles between the driver of the Golf and a passenger in the Zafira. The driver of the Golf then punched the Zafira passenger causing him to fall backwards and hit his head. The Golf driver has then returned to his vehicle and driven off in the direction of Mayo Avenue and the M606.
The injured man, who is 38-years-old, is currently being treated at Leeds General Infirmary, where his injuries are described as serious.
The driver of the Golf is described as a white man, in his late 20s, around 5 ft 8 ins tall, of thin build but broad shoulders. He has dark hair, some stubble on his chin and was wearing a red t-shirt and 3/4 length trousers which were light brown or khaki in colour and possibly turned up. There was also a female passenger in the Golf who is described as white with long, blonde hair.
Detective Inspector Ben McDonald, of Bradford District CID, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who either witnessed this collision or the assault afterwards. We are also interested in hearing from anyone who thinks they may have seen the damaged red Volkswagen Golf following this incident.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Bradford District CID on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
