Music festival all set to be saved

THE two-day Todstock music festival, which had been in jeopardy after two streams of funding had fallen through, is all set to be saved.

The festival organisers faced a funding shortfall and were due to meet this week to decide whether or not it would go ahead.

But following their appeal extra cash, with a major amount coming from another festival event, means it is almost certain the festival at Centre Vale Park, Todmorden, on Saturday and Sunday, August 7 and 8, will go ahead.

Former Todmorden festival organisers Todfest came up trumps with a generous donation of their remaininng funds, said Todstock's Craig Baillie.

Mr Ian Dobie, Todfest organiser, said he had seen the appeal and Todfest was delighted to help. The last Todfest was held three years ago and still had some funds remaining in the coffers.

Ian said: "We're going to donate 4,000 to Todstock. The money has sat there and was always going to be used for another event.

"The committee members have all moved on to other things and it was in our constitution that if Todfest ever disbanded, then the money should be donated to a similar event.

"We wholly support what Todstock hopes to achieve and anything we can do to make it happen is our pleasure.

"I've contacted the other committee members and we're all in agreement. It's the right thing to do.

Craig said it was great news and added that they had secured a platinum sponsor, Vital Services Group, who have donated 1,000 and are sponsoring the acoustic music tent.

"Weather permitting they may have a hot air balloon fly-by of Tod to open the festival, and have a balloon there in the sky during the event. Let's hope for some sunshine.

"Add to that the 20 or so stalls we have so far and we should just be able to pull it off," he said.

Craig said the donations meant the festival would almost certainly take place. "There is a shortfall, so we will have to cut back slightly. There's still time for the community to get behind us and help us. The important thing is to give Tod a grand weekend for everyone to enjoy," he said.

This week the organisers have confirmed the Revolucion Records tour bus appearing, which houses a full club system. They'll be based in a corner of the event field and will stream the event live on the internet, and all for free, said Craig.

Todstock will have a range of events to appeal to everyone, young and older, and it takes place on the Saturday from noon to 9pm and on the Sunday from noon to 6pm.
