THE new academic year has brought new beginnings at Todmorden High School.

As well as welcoming the new intake of students into year seven and the sixth form centre, the school is preparing for the official opening of the demonstration room at the food hub on its Ewood Lane site.

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, visitors will be able to have a look around and see the Big Lottery funded community venture in action during the school’s open evening.

Headteacher Helen Plaice said Todmorden High is aiming to carry on the momentum from the summer.

“After summer 2012 produced another year of ‘best ever’ results for Todmorden High School, we have been planning our focus for the coming academic year,” she said.

“With the three key priorities of the quality of teaching, student progress, and systems and policies we know we are in a strong position to ensure our students are getting a quality all-round education from our school.

“Our motto of ‘Reach Beyond’ has served us very well in the significant improvements we have made over the last five years.

“I have every confidence that we will maintain the momentum of last year’s impressive results and go on to meet the challenging targets we have set ourselves for summer 2013.”

Deputy Headteacher Chris Wilcocks is leading the transition process for students from primary into secondary school.

“It’s been fantastic to see our new year seven students settle into their new school so quickly,” he said. “I know the support of our new transition team has helped this process.”

As part of a wider leadership restructure, learning leader Gemma Cooper and learning manager Emily Bedder were appointed last term to work with prospective students in year six and then to carry on as their student progress team for year seven.

Prospective students and their parents are invited to the open evening on Tuesday from 6-8pm. There will also be tours of the school between 9am and 10.30am. To book a place, call 01706 813558.
