Our day to be pampered, at special Dignity Action Day
RESIDENTS at a Todmorden care home were treated to a pampering day to celebrate Dignity Action Day.
The sessions were part of the Dignity in Care Campaign, which was launched in November 2006, and residents were given a range of treatments including: reiki, reflexology, body massages, foot spas and manicures.
Pam Hey, resident support worker and qualified holistic therapist, said: "The campaign can hopefully have a major effect on how elderly residents are treated in care homes. The Dignity Champion campaign is about raising awareness and I'd urge everyone to sign up."
Calderdale Council's Director of Adults, Health and Social Care, Jonathan Phillips, revealed that many Calderdale staff have already demonstrated their commitment to the Dignity Campaign by signing up to the campaign and he believes that they can make a real difference to adult social care.
He said: "By signing up to this, they have demonstrated their strong belief that older people are entitled to dignity and respect, both in care settings and in their own homes.
"Dignity is not simply about not tolerating abuse. It's about making sure that we treat our older people in the way we would wish to be treated when we get old."
The campaign is headed by National Dignity Ambassador, the broadcaster and journalist, Michael Parkinson. It aims to stimulate a national debate around dignity in care and create a care system where there is zero tolerance of abuse and disrespect of adults.
