Platform for a day of fun

A STATION gala pulled in the crowds and everyone enjoyed the second annual event organised by Todmorden Station Partnership.

Arts and crafts, ‘bat the rat’ and a coconut shy were among the traditional family activities at the free event last Sunday.

Entertainment was provided by ferret racing and music by 20 Flight Rock, a rock band made up of Northern Rail train drivers.

Visitors were also able to enjoy history exhibitions, dancing with T.C. and The Swing Cats, traditional food and a Todmorden in Bloom stall.

Kate Wild, of Bear Wholefoods, created a collage with photographs donated by Todmorden residents for a permanent piece of art for the station.

People had been encouraged to come along to the gala and help her design the piece, which she hoped would capture the spirit of Todmorden.

“It was a bit windy to do this on the day but we did alright. I’m just tidying it up and finishing it off now,” said Kate.

“The gala went really well and everyone enjoyed themselves.”

The station gala also tied in with the start of the South Pennines Heritage Festival, which runs until September 30.

The heritage festival has a list of events, from hiking over the moors to learning more about the local heritage and wildlife, and has been designed to encourage people to use public transport.
