Police caught man 'equipped for theft'

TREVOR Wademan was caught searching a derelict building for scrap wire.

Police found Wademan, 27, of Dineley Avenue, Todmorden, inside the disused Calderdale Rubber building at Pudsey Road, Cornholme, Todmorden.

Wademan was convicted of going equipped for theft after a trial at Calderdale Magistrates Court.

He admitted possessing cannabis and amphetamines.

He was given 130 hours of community service with 250 costs.

Andy Wills, prosecuting, said police often searched the building, a known drinking den for youngsters.

They found Wademan who said he was looking around for scrap wire to sell for cash – and it was not stealing because the building was empty.

Philip Cockroft, for Wademan, said the drugs were in small quantities and he thought the building was abandoned.
