Precision job as new lock gates installed

BRITISH Waterways have installed new lock gates at the Rochdale Canal's Lobb Mill lock this week.

Photographer Nathan Birch captured these images of the weathered old gates being lifted out by crane and then replaced by the new stout oak gates which cost about 20,000 per set.

The company Stanley Lang carried out the work with the new gates being brought down from the Hull area.

With each gate weighing around three tons, it was a heavy dury and precision job to undertake.
