Rail line re-opens after landslip

RAIL services are again using the Burnley line linking Preston and Leeds which was closed for around three and a half hours earlier today (Tuesday) while engineers investigateda landslip at the end of a street of houses.

The landslip at the end of Victoria Street, Cornholme, last night meant the line was closed this morning while Network Rail staff inspected the banking, which supports the track.

Service operator Northern Rail had patched in a bus service link between Hebden Bridge and Blackburn but has reported services were able to resume although speed restrictions are in place so there will still be knock-on delays to services until they get back to normal.

A spokesman for Network Rail confirmed engineers had said the line was safe to use again following inspections this morning,

Initially it was examined to see if it was safe to re-open the line. There had not been any movement and use would not destabilise it, he said. Engineers have still to decide what work will be done at the wall.
