A COMMUNITY theatre group is inviting people to roll up their sleeves and grab a duster to help get the building ready for some very important visitors.

Todmorden Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (TAODS), which owns and runs the Hippodrome Theatre on Halifax Road, is holding its annual jobs day on Sunday, September 2.

Members, friends and helpers will all join in to get the community-owned Edwardian theatre ready for the new season.

Steve Clarkson, of TAODS, said: “While extensive damage to the backstage areas in the June floods is being repaired by local firm HRS, there are still plenty of jobs to do.”

There will be jobs for all ages, ranging from cleaning and polishing to painting and basic DIY tasks.

Volunteers have been working on a refurbishment of the foyer over the summer and it is hoped the finishing touches can be completed on Sunday.

Everyone is welcome at the Hippodrome from 9am, with bacon butties for everyone who arrives by 9.30am and an endless supply of Fairtrade tea and coffee to keep volunteers working hard.

There will also be a lunch for all the volunteers with vegetarian options available.
