St Joseph’s RC Primary School recently hosted a major fundraising event for Candlelighters, the Yorkshire-based charity for children with cancer.
The charity provides practical, emotional and financial support for the children, their parents, and also family and carers.
St Joseph’s pupil, Niamh Hudspith, is currently receiving support from Candlelighters so classmates, staff, governors and the whole of the school community were keen to support the charity when Ryan Ridgeway had the idea to help his little sister Niamh.
Ryan got together with headteacher Mrs Maria Cooper, to organise the event with the school and parish to raise through a raffle, tombola, tin-can alley, football shootout, choco lotto, cake stall and many other fun activities. Ryan bravely decided to have his head shaved at the event in the school hall. Ryan’s family also got the support from local businesses, Burnley Football Club, Gordon Riggs, Morrisons, Lidl and the Factory Shop who all kindly donated raffle prizes.
Mrs Cooper said: “It was a wonderful effort. We are delighted to be able to help such an important cause, especially as it is currently helping one of our pupils.”
