Todmorden Police carried out vehicle checks with partners from the Vehicle Operating Services Agency (VOSA) and HM Customs on Burnley Road and Halifax Road, Todmorden

Five motorist were fined up to £300 for a range of offences, including using their mobile phones whilst driving, driving without a current MOT and carrying overweight loads, as police carried out vehicle checks in Todmorden on Friday.

Working with the Vehicle Operating Services Agency and HM Customs, police took six other motorists off the road to fix serious defects. Nearly 100 vehicles were tested for red diesel.

PC Ryan Stockton, of the upper Valley NPT, said “I would like to thank the majority of motorists we stopped who were driving legally and were patient with us as we completed our checks. A number of motorists were dealt with in regards to defects to their vehicles, which left unrepaired could have led to serious accidents. Hopefully the action taken will have made the roads in Todmorden safer for all users.”
