Set to grow their own food

PARENTS, staff and children from Todmorden CE Primary School volunteered their time to contructing some raised planting beds.

The volunteers created three raised beds which will be used by the school children to grow vegetables.

A spokesperson for the school said: "We like the idea of our children being able to grow and then eat home grown food - it provides them with a learning experience as well as great skills for the future."

The project, supported by funds from the Schools PTA and a Morrisons Action Earth grant, has also formed links with 'Incredible Edible Todmorden'.

They have already provided the school with its first plants and some fruit bushes that have been planted close by.

Now the raised beds are complete the school children will be busy over the coming weeks planting them up with vegetables hoping for a bumper harvest in the summer.
