Singers hit notes to increase flood help

A £900 boost thanks to the efforts of a local singing group has increased the help an organisation can give to flood victims.

Todmorden Lions have thanked Hepton Singers for a donation of £900 to the flood appeal.

The money was the proceeds from a concert held recently by the singers at Todmorden’s Fielden Centre, together with some donations made by the people of Bucharest, the city recently being visited by Hepton Singers.

Todmorden Lions would also like to stress that they still have funds available to give grants to people affected by the summer’s floods.

Lion Rod Wainwright said: “We have also received the offer of some furniture, consisting of a two-seater settee, an armchair and a double bed.

“Inquiries regarding grants and the furniture can be made by contacting Customer First at Todmorden Community College or by ringing 01706 819200.”

Inquiries can also be made on Sunday at Shop Lock, Todmorden, from approximately 10am to 6pm, where Todmorden Lions volunteers will be based for the finish of the Lions’ Canal Walk.

The Canal Walk itself, which gives people the opportunity to walk from Manchester to Todmorden along the Rochdale Canal towpaths, or any of the shorter stretches between checkpoints, is also a charity fundraiser.

Each year Todmorden Lions, supported in the walk by other Lions clubs, raise money for a different charity through it and walk proceeds for 2012 will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The event is supported by St John Ambulance and Raynet volunteers.
