An upper Calder Valley man and three friends will leap into the wide blue yonder later this month in memory of his father.

Bobby Shanks, and friends Jonny Kerr and brothers Tom Barker and Sam Poulton, who have all lost loved ones to cancer, will make their accompanied jump at Bridlington next Friday, March 29. It will raise money for Springhill hospice at Rochdale in memory of Bobby’s dad Bob, who was cared for there on two occasions before he passed away.

Bobby said the care his dad received encouraged him to do something in return, supported by his mum Alison and brother Lee.

“They made him feel at ease and really cared for him and they also took a lot of pressure off the family. I have always wanted to do a sky dive but do it for something, and we are pleased to do this for Springhill,” he said.

“I lost my dad at the end of January and £430 was collected for the hospice at his funeral. We are hoping to break the £2,000 barrier in total and we are already about half way there.”

You can support the four friends, alias the Supermen for this task, all from Todmorden except Sam who lives in Halifax, online at www.justgiving.co.uk/supermenskydive and collection buckets are also being placed at Gina and Jake’s sandwich Kabin at Todmorden Market.
