INDEPENDENT businesses in the upper Calder Valley are being invited to become part of the Twitter revolution.

The Local Distinctiveness project, managed by rural regeneration company Pennine Prospects, aims to get visitors to spend more time and money in the South Pennines area by encouraging businesses to highlight what makes their area special and different.

Pennine Prospects has commissioned local company Holly and Jan - Creative Social Media to provide bespoke one-to-one social media training sessions for independent businesses. They will be held at Hebden Bridge Town Hall on Monday, October 1, The Bramche Bar in Todmorden on Monday, October 8, and at St Michael’s Church in Mytholmroyd on Monday, October 15.

Project coordinator, Rebecca Yorke said: “The combined impact of the economic downturn, poor weather and flooding has meant that many businesses in the area, particularly in the Upper Calder Valley, have had a disappointing summer trading period.

“Social media can be a powerful tool for promoting a positive image in these difficult times and lots of local businesses are already using it effectively. These workshops are designed to help those who are less familiar with tools such as Twitter and Facebook to make their first forays in the world of social media, or to start getting more out of their existing online presence.”

Funding for the training is being made available through the South Pennines LEADER programme. which is jointly funded by Defra and the European Union.

Interested businesses can visit the News and Events page at www.southpennines.co.uk for more information and registration, which is essential.
