Woodland walks in Hardcastle Crags and longer treks across moorland will be more accessible thanks to a bus service which resumes at Easter.

Following talks with Hebden Bridge Walkers Action, Metro has agreed to run the 906 Widdop bus at Easter and then every weekend from May to September.

Richard Peters, chair of Hebden Bridge Walkers Action, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to give local people and visitors the chance to have easy access to some of the best countryside in the area.

“Whether you are a first-time walker or an experienced hiker, there are walks just right for you.”

The 906 bus will start on Sunday, March 31. Hebden Bridge Walkers Action will be launching the service by leading a three-mile walk up the crags from the 10.46 departure from the railway station and a six-mile walk to Colden from the 11.12 departure.

Details are contained in the Calderdale Wildside booklet available from Calderdale visitor centres.

The group, working with the National Trust and Metro, has produced a route guide with 12 walks, each described and graded for people to check their suitability.

The route guide is available from Hebden Bridge and Todmorden visitor centres (£1.50) and on the 906 bus. As a bonus, walkers presenting their 906 bus ticket at the Weaving Shed cafe at Hardcastle Crags will be entitled to a free hot drink.
