You might swap your neeps and tatties for rice if you try a special fundraising dish cooked by for Burns Night!

The Curried Away stall on Todmorden outdoor market, run by Scot Jeff Thomson, is going spicy for the occasion.

Jeff is taking the haggis, the traditional food eaten on January 25 to celebrate Scottish national poet Robert Burns, and giving it an Asian twist.

He has created haggis pakora, using haggis filling and adding a mix of ginger, red chillies and spices, covered in chick pea flour-based pakora batter from India, then fried.

There will be two choices, one using traditional meat-based haggis and the other vegetarian haggis.

“It’s haggis with spices and a bit of extra heat, ideal for winter,” said Jeff.

Half the proceeds of all pakora haggis sales from the curried away stall on Todmorden outdoor market on Saturday January 25 will be donated to PAWS, the Todmorden-based animal welfare charity.
