Street surfing for teenagers

FREE Street Surfing lessons, with equipment provided, are being laid on for the town's teenagers this spring.

A joint venture between West Yorkshire Police, Calderdale Council and the Activity Community and Development team, the scheme will run at Bobbin Mill Close, Cornholme, on April 12, 19 and 26 and May 3, 10 and 17, each session running from 5.45pm to 6.45pm.

It is aimed at Todmorden's 13 to 19 year-olds and sessions, taken by an instructor, will be fully supervised and policed, said one of the town's Police Community Support Officers, Elayne Wright.

PCSO Wright said: "It is something for the children in the village to do and hopefully they will come and support us – it is open to all in Todmorden who are of the relevant age group. It uses special 'street surfboards' and the equipment is provided – they just need to bring themselves."

Those who want to attend need to register in advance and can pick up a form from Todmorden Community College, Burnley Road, or contact PCSO Wright on 01706 817237 for more details.
