Sunday: Festivals of food - and water

The Rochdale Canal will be a hive of activity on Sunday as two festivals hold events along the canalside.

In addition to the Rochdale Canal Festival finale, there will be the latest in a series of food markets as part of the Todmorden Local Heroes Food Festival.

Organised by Incredible Edible Todmorden and Todmorden Business Association, the canalside market at Fielden Wharf will run from 10am until 4pm.

Lynne Midwinter from Incredible Edible said: "This is a wonderful opportunity to sample and buy local foods from producers within 15 miles or less, in the beautiful setting of Fielden Wharf and the canal.

"We will have local bread, ice cream, cakes, drinks and more, so come and join us for an hour or even for lunch."

A range of activities will be held during the canal festival finale, with the main attraction taking place at the Rochdale Canal Summit, near Walsden.

The Todmorden Vintner will be supporting the Local Heroes Food Festival by offering a special menu featuring produce sourced from the town. The three course menu will be available on Friday, July 30, from 6pm.

Proprietor Madeleine Hoyle said: "We have championed local produce for the last 12 years.

"It is particularly exciting to put the spotlight on Todmorden produce."
