Tell headteacher what you think
EQUALITY, diversity and cohesion are issues up for debate at Todmorden High School and the headteacher is calling on the whole community to share their views.
"Schools should be up front about these things and we'd like to engage with the community to find out what people want us to offer. We will listen to the voice of the community. We'd like to hear from individuals, who may have specific needs or considerations, or groups working in the town," said Patrick Ottley-O'Connor.
The school is consulting with pupils, staff, governors and parents to develop an equality and cohesion action plan and the Todmorden High Inclusion and Equality group is now seeking the views of the wider community to shape the policies and practices being developed.
"Issues of inequality due to disability, race, religion, sexual orientation and age are some of the areas we will be looking at and seeking to do something about," he said.
Mr Ottley-O'Connor said he was hoping to hear from anyone who may be themselves affected by a physical or sensory disability, or have a family member who is, or anyone suffering from a long-term mental health problem that prevents involvement in community activities.
The high school is also consulting with local primary schools and the pupils at Todmorden High School, from the school council, sixth form and leaders throughout the school, are all also involved.
"Diversity should be celebrated and we want to include everyone in the vision for a new school," he added.
Hilary Myers is the link governor for the scheme.
