Councillors are inviting people to nominate their unsung community heroes for the Citizenship Award for Todmorden 2014.

Todmorden Town Council is asking members of the public to put forward people who make a difference in their local community.

Coun David O’Neill, chairman of the town council’s citizenship award committee, said nominations can include individuals, couples and groups.

Coun O’Neill said: ”We are looking to the people of Todmorden to let us know of individuals, couples or even societies who work tirelessly for different charities or organisations.

“This will be the fifth year that the town council has made these awards and the committee looks forward to having a difficult decision to make from all the nominations.”

Application forms are available on the Todmorden Town Council website - www.todmordencouncil.org.uk - the town council office at Todmorden Community College, or at Todmorden Information Centre, on Burnley Road.

Applications must be returned to the town clerk by Friday, February 14. All nominees must agree to be put forward and sign the form.

Any unsuccessful nominees from the previous year will also be reconsidered.

“You can have as many nominations as you want,” Coun O’Neill said.

“Every town has people who go the extra mile to help the community. People tend to take them for granted and the town council wants to show people that we appreciate what they are doing.”

The recipients of the award and their guests will be invited to the annual Mayor’s Day civic celebration at Todmorden Town Hall in May, when they will be presented with their certificates by the retiring Mayor of Todmorden Coun Jayne Booth in her final act as the town’s civic head.

Last year’s winners of the Citizenship Award were Sandra Peach and the Todmorden branch of Friends of Overgate Hospice.
