Transport group to receive £1,000 grant

A GROUP which provides transport for low mobility residents in Todmorden will benefit from £1,000 of town council funding.

Everyone’s Quality of Life applied to Todmorden Town Council for the money, which will enable the group to take people on trips to places such as the Trafford Centre and Meadowhall.

Brian Hewson, who spoke on behalf of the group, said: “The money will be used to hire transport and drivers from Community Transport Calderdale.”

The group, which previously ran under the name Linda’s Shoppers, is open to all people and can cater for wheelchair users.

Members of the town council’s amenities committee decided to give the group funding for six months, after which consideration will be given to providing further financial support. Coun Jayne Booth said: “If this will enhance people’s quality of life, it would be worthwhile.”

Coun David O’Neill said: “We have all seen the terrible things that have been happening in Mytholmroyd with the Calder Valley Club.

“If we were to go down the line of asking Calderdale Council for money, I know what the answer will be. People in Todmorden will be missing out.”
