Tribunal: Steph Booth was unfairly dismissed
LABOUR Parliamentary candidate for the Calder Valley seat, Steph Booth, was unfairly dismissed from her job, an employment tribunal has found.
Mrs Booth, who is the step-mother of Cherie Blair, had brought an action against Burnley-based company Cool UK following her redundancy.
Mrs Booth, who joined the company in April 2008 and was made redundant early last year, told the tribunal, at Manchester, that she had been victimised for whistle-blowing about the organisation.
The hearing was held in January and yesterday the tribunal announced that its judgement was that she had been unfairly dismissed contrary to section 103A of the Employment Rights Act 1996, with the principal reason being that she had made a protected disclosure and - a secondary reason - had brought health and safety issues to the employer's attention by reasonable means.
But the tribunal also ruled she had not suffered detriment by any act of the employer under either of the relevant sections of the Employment Rights Act 1996.
It found the respondent - Cool (UK) Education Limited - had deducted 300 gross more than it should have done from the claimant's salary in March 2009. Finally, it found she had not been given a statement of initial employment particulars.
The tribunal report said Mrs Booth must now consider whether she wishes to have a remedy hearing and inform the tribunal accordingly.
In a statement, Mrs Booth said its findings showed she had been vindicated in taking the matter before a tribunal.
