Ucca's delight at music fans' £1,000 contribution

TODSTOCK benefitted charitable groups with over £1,000 raised in a bucket collection over the two-day free music festival.

Charitable organisation Upper Calder Charity Assist (UCCA) was given the opportunity to raise funds at the festival, held in Todmorden's Centre Vale Park.

An estimated 5,000 people flocked onto the park to enjoy the weekend's varied music performances, activities and stalls, and members of UCCA and their volunteers raised 1245.22 through bucket collections alone.

Antony Law, the group's events organiser, said: "It was absolutely astonishing the number of people who not only donated but also expressed genuine interest in our organisation and its underlying aims. We are so grateful for everybody's kind generosity and overwhelming support."

UCCA aims to support other local charities and those in need in the Upper Calder Valley area. Launched in 2009, a number of projects and fundraising events have been undertaken to both involve the local community and raise money that will benefit the lives of others.

Emma Piszkalo, the group's secretary, added: "It was a great pleasure to be involved in Todstock and to witness how successful the event was.

"There was a fantastic vibe throughout the whole weekend. On behalf of UCCA, I would like to extend a huge thank-you to Craig Baillie for allowing us to collect donations and we hope to continue our involvement in the future."

The UCCA committee are currently in the throes of organising the annual Mayor's Charity Fashion Show at Todmorden Town Hall, which will take place on Thursday, November 11, and Friday, November 12.

For more information about UCCA contact the group's chairwoman, Shirley Fielder on 0785 2355111.
