velma go walkabout and secure final night spot

VELMA stormed through to the finals of Burnley's Battle of the Bands competition after playing an amazing set to win over the audience at the Walkabout club, Burnley, showing East Lancashire how to rock!

The Todmorden based band played two sets of self-penned indie punk material, drummer Bob Shanks energetically holding the beat while guitarists Matt Crossley (lead) and Liam Pringle (bass) revved up the tune. Jonny Kerr’s vocals entranced the Burnley crowd and a great night was had by all.

There were consolations for the Superkings, who put on a good set of their own, but the crowd voted Velma the band of the night.

It puts them through to the grand final of the competition which will be this Sunday, March 26, again at the Walkabout club in Hammerton Street, Burnley. Velma will face some stiff competition from either Columbia or Spitfire, both indie bands.

Velma thank all their fans and followers who have supported them since they formed and hope to give them a superb show in the final (which runs from about 8 pm on the night).

As an extra treat, the band has put the three tracks included on their latest CD, “Nothing To Do With Me”, “Let Yourself Go” and “Hard Up”, onto the www.myspace.com.music website.
