We’re getting into the Olympic spirit
Children from St Joseph's RC School, Todmorden receive the Prayer Torch Relay
PUPILS at two upper Calder Valley schools have been getting into the Olympic spirit.
Children at St Joseph’s Primary School, Todmorden, participated in the Diocese of Salford’s Relay of Prayer.
After receiving the Prayer Torch, they travelled to St Mary’s School in Littleborough to pass it on and give a special assembly about their chosen Olympic country, Chile.
Headteacher Maria Cooper said: “Learning about the countries around the world taking part in the Olympics has given the children an insight into how we are a big family.”
At Hebden Royd Primary School, pupils have made pennants which will be given to visiting athletes at the 2012 Games.
Headteacher Gretyl Young said: “It’s been great fun.
“Well done to all the children and thanks to all the staff who have spent time sewing on hanging loops to each one.
“We’ll be looking out for them when we watch the Olympics.”
