A “wicked and depraved” father who repeatedly had sex with his drug addict daughter has been jailed by a judge for more than four years.
The 62-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, started having sex with the complainant when she was 16 and his abuse continued for almost two decades.
Bradford Crown Court heard today (Friday) that the first offence of incest took place when the teenager visited her father’s then home in Brighouse to ask him for money.
Prosecutor Nick Adlington said the defendant had sexual intercourse with his daughter in the kitchen.
The court heard that over the years the defendant would give his daughter money to buy drugs in exchange for sex and that the offending took place in various locations including the complainant’s homes.
Mr Adlington said the defendant would ask her to wear a school uniform while they had sex and even offered the woman and another drug addict friend £150 to take part in a ‘threesome’ with him.
The court heard that the friend was desperate for money to buy heroin, but although she started to engage in sexual activity she was so disgusted with what was happening she stopped.
In 2011 the defendant got his daughter pregnant, but Mr Adlington said the woman went to hospital for a termination.
It emerged that the defendant had been jailed previously for sexual offences against the complainant’s sister.
Sentencing the defendant for offences of incest and having sex with an adult family member Judge Jonathan Rose branded him a “wicked and depraved man”.
Judge Rose was told that the defendant felt genuine remorse for the offences against his daughter, but the judge said he did not accept that.
The judge pointed out that the defendant had only pleaded guilty to the offences at his trial after he lost legal arguments relating to his previous conviction and the evidence of the woman involved in the “threesome” incident.
“The offences to which you have pleaded guilty and the circumstances in which you have committed them defy any understanding by any decent human being,’’ the judge told the defendant.
“Not one of us is able to understand what drives a man to act with such wickedness.
“Your abuse was callous, it was manipulative and it relied very much on the desperate state of your daughter who was already by 16 a drug addict.
“She at no stage wanted to have sexual relations with you. She took part in those relations because of the financial benefit to her that she would (use) for her drug use.
“This disgraceful and disgusting behaviour went on for a very long period of time...it is a persistent course of conduct that elevates your offending to the highest reaches of the sentences that can be imposed for offences of this type.”
The judge said the defendant’s guilty pleas would result in some credit because his daughter had been spared the ordeal of having to give evidence, but he said failing to wear a condom and impregnating his daughter was a serious aggravating feature of the case.
Judge Rose, who sentenced the defendant to 50 months, told him that he would now have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and he would also be subject to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order.
