THE Mayor of Todmorden cut a special cake to officially relaunch an upper valley charity.

Age Concern Todmorden has become Age UK Todmorden and to mark the change, an open day was held at its office on Burnley Road in the town.

People took the opportunity to call in and find out more about the charity, which has been supporting older people in the area for 40 years.

Mayor and Mayoress of Todmorden, Coun Richard White and Rev Sandy White, were among the guests.

Catherine Rosborough, from Age UK Todmorden, said: “We were very pleased with the number of people who came to see us on Saturday and to find out about what we do. A lot of cake was eaten!”

Local authors Roger and Diane Quick also attended to present a cheque for £1,100 which they have raised for Age UK Todmorden during the past year.

Roger and Diane have produced eight books which Roger sells on the market on Saturdays, with all profits going to Age UK Todmorden.

The money will be used to fund trips out for older people.

The Age UK office is open Monday to Friday, 10am until noon.
