This weekend a record 84 artists will be taking part in the Hebden Bridge Open Studios event with exhibitors from along the upper Calder Valley displaying examples of their work.

The annual event continues to get bigger and better, say organisers, and this year’s will include a new taster exhibition at Hebden Bridge Town Hall.

The Open Studios event takes place tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday (July 5 to 7) and follows on from the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival, offering a third weekend of arts in the upper Calder Valley.

Artists in Old Town, Mytholmroyd, Heptonstall, Lydgate and Todmorden as well as Hebden Bridge will be welcoming visitors into their studios and workshops.

Work on show will include paintings, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, illustration, automata, furniture and jewellery.

Visitors will be able to view original work by established and new talent from this flourishing creative community at the venues in which they create their art.

They can also watch demonstrations and talk directly to the artists about the techniques they use and what passions inspire their work.

Most of the studios are open 11am to 5pm each day.

This year for the first time there will be a temporary taster exhibition at the new Town Hall in Hebden Bridge, which opened yesterday and runs until Sunday.

A diverse range of work will be on display and for sale in a variety of media and subjects at the town hall exhibition.

This will give people a taste of what they can expect to see in the Open Studios.

Booklets detailing the artists and locations of their studios are available from the Visitor and Canal Centre and Town Hall in Hebden Bridge, Todmorden Information Centre and various shops and cafes around the towns.

Details about the exhibition, artists and locations are also available on the Open Studios website www.hbopenstudios.org.uk.
