Mystery of Tod’s bin Laden link

THE death of the world’s most wanted terrorist has led to speculation about the whereabouts of his daughter-in-law, formerly of Todmorden.

News emerged on Monday that Osama bin Laden had been killed in a raid by American elite Navy Seals on a two-storey house near a Pakistani army base in Abbottabad, 50 miles from the capital Islamabad.

Jane Felix-Browne, 55, formerly of Fellside, Lee Bottom Road, Todmorden, married the terror mastermind’s son Omar bin Laden, 30, in 2007 and changed her name to Zaina Mohammed Al-Sabah.

It is believed the couple may be in Qatar but she has refused to elaborate on her location.

She did confirm that she and Omar knew that Osama bin Laden had been killed by US troops.

Despite media reports last year stating that she and Omar had split, she said they were still very much together. “Of course I’m still with him,” she said.

Zaina revealed they had heard about Osama’s death “via telephone calls mainly” but also by watching TV.

She refused to say how Omar had reacted to the news.

Zaina has been married six times, has three sons and five grandchildren.

She has suffered from multiple sclerosis since she was 11 and is understood to have met Omar while undergoing treatment for the condition.

In an interview in 2007, Zaina said Omar had not spoken to his father since the World Trade Centre attacks in 2001.

She said at the time: “We want peace. Omar wants to be an ambassador for peace and I’m behind him.”
