TODMORDEN Carnival Queen and her retinue have been chosen for this year’s big event, in which all the town is invited to join in.
Twelve-year-old Chloe Marie Donnelly is Queen and she will have a retinue of three princesses, her sisters Alison, ten, and Katie, eight, and ten-year-old Jessica Mae Bailey.
This year’s event, on Saturday, May 26, is on the theme of Jubilee Olympics, meaning entries themes around the big sports event, the Queen’s special year or combining both will all be in with a chance of winning some prize money.
Carnival committee chairman Philip Clarke said: “We want this to be a memorable event for the town in a big year for the community and there is lots to choose from in the theme, with prize money to be won.”
The parade will start at 12.30pm at Sanworth Street and make its way up Halifax Road, around the Town Hall and along Burnley Road to the carnival field at Centre Vale Park, where entertainment and competitions, which it is hoped will include a 100 meters dash as well as tug-of-war, will be held.
