Owner ‘sickened’ after raid at car wash

A CAR wash owner lost thousands of pounds of equipment and trade when his business was raided.

Thieves broke into Todmorden Valeting and Tyre Services, Lydgate, on Thursday night and stole a pressure washer, wet and dry vac, air line, jack, the till and other equipment.

Owner Tassar Rafiq was unable to open the business on Friday and Saturday. Given the hot weather, he estimates he lost £400 of trade over the two days.

“It’s a lot of money when you have bills to pay and your rent is due,” he said.

“It’s part of life but you don’t need this, especially at the peak of the season. It’s a bit of a sickener.”

Thanks to the loan of equipment from friends, he was able re-open the business on Sunday.

Because of the break-in, a planned charity car wash to raise funds for the Fielden Centre has had to be postponed.
