Calderdale remains a hung council but Labour, who take two out of three in valley, gain seven seats

CALDERDALE remains a hung council after yesterday’s elections, but Labour gained seven seats.

Labour took two out of the three Calder Valley seats, with Liberal Democrat Christine Bampton-Smith being ousted in Luddenden Foot ward and Conservative Ian Cooper losing his Todmorden ward seat. Simon Young and Steve Sweeney were the victorious Labour candidates.

Janet Battye held Calder ward for the Liberal Democrats.

Calderdale remains in no overall control, but Labour are now the largest party with 20 seats. The Conservatives have 17, the Liberal Democrats 12 and other parties hold the two remaining seats.
