Labour’s Sweeney takes Todmorden seat

LABOUR have taken the Todmorden ward Calderdale Council seat with a majority of 198 votes.

Steve Sweeney took the seat for the party with 1072 votes, with Ian Cooper, defending the seat for the Conservatives, down to third place with 583 votes.

Veteran Liberal Democrat Olwen Jennings was in second place with 874 votes.

David Jones (BPP) was fourth with 257 and the Green Party’s John Nesbitt fifth with 246.

The turnout was low, at 34.26 per cent.
