A PRIMARY school has been given a top award by Calderdale Council.

Extended Services and Schools manager, Liz Kemp, presented Todmorden C of E School with the ‘Gold Standard Award’ for delivering excellent service to children and their families.

The school has become one of only 14 in Calderdale to have won the prestigious award. It holds breakfast and after school clubs during term time, as well as sports and activities club. They also have play schemes and trips out every week during the summer.

Alwyn Sutcliffe, from the school, said staff were extremely proud to have been chosen for the award.

“We’re not just a school which is open from 9 to 3.30. We’re here to give children some experiences they might not otherwise get and also to help parents out if they need it,” she said.

“Because other schools are not big enough to run out of school clubs we’ve taken in children from them too, so it’s really helped the community in Todmorden. I’d recommend this kind of partnership to other schools in Calderdale.”
