YOUNGSTERS had an avian adventure when some feathered friends flew in see them.

Staff from the Welsh Bird of Prey Centre visited Walsden St Peter’s School for a special day of activities.

Expert Mike Wakeman, from the centre, showed the children a number of wild owls, hawks and falcons. Some lucky volunteers also had chance to hold the Eagle Owl.

Headteacher Peter Stevenson said: “The children were fascinated.

“Mike is very knowledgeable and entertaining and the children really enjoyed learning about the birds.”

The session was paid for by the school’s parents and friends association, Friends of Walsden.

Mr Stevenson said: “We’re always very grateful when we’re given the opportunity to provide special events like this for the children.”
