Riders got in their saddles to say “neigh” to cancer with their mounts at a Todmorden equestrian centre recently.

Neigh To Cancer, for Cancer Research UK, was a great success raising £1,100 at Shaw Farm Equestrian, Todmorden, thanks to prorietor Esther Horsfall.

Kath O’Donnell, of the Three Amigos FUNdraising Group, said lots of people in the riding world had supported the event, enabling such a good sum to be raised.

Main sponsor for the event was Hird and Partners Veterinary Practice, which has practices in the Calder Valley at Walsden, Halifax, Ripponden and Shelf, and there were also spons9ors for each class including Intro A, Dayrl Burk Dry Stone Walling; Prelim 7, The Horse Box; Prelim 18, ARP Todmorden; Novice 27, Louisa Gaunt Equine Services, FSM, Sam Radcliffe and Summit Forge. Team sponsors were Chadderton Welding.

Afterthe day’s competition, the team winners were Lyn’s Ladies, consisting of Karen Morgan on Palmer, Charlotte Welsby on Scottsway Mikado, Georgia Marriot on Chelsie Girl and Jaime Sanderson on Amaretto S.

“This was very emotional as it was Charlotte’s Nan’s, who lost her life to cancer, anniversary on the day and Lyn’s Ladies was named in her honour.

“Thanks also go from us to to the judges, Ashley Ward and Karen Phythian, who gave their time. Lots of people and companies supported this event and we would like to thank all of them - we really appreciate it! “ said Kath.

To name a few, they included local companies, Naylor’s Equestrian, Hackworth’s feed merchants, Equine Mania, Nags & Wags, M. Miller Saddlery and The Stitchery, Rochdale, she said.

“The day was well attended and there was an amazing, fun atmostphere from start to finish. Everyone, including the horses, had a great time!

“People enjoyed receiving goodie bags that were donated by various companies and those who won the rosettes loved them as they were made specially pink by Rosettes Direct for Neigh To Cancer.

“Lots won on our huge tombola and people were very generous in donating money. We had a special visitor, the stallion Samara Fly owned by Mandy Sanderson at Longacers Stud and his talented rider Alex Ingoe-Topham who performed for us, showing his moves. This was a great end to a fantastic day and we have been asked to do this event again in the summer as all enjoyed it so much,” said Kath.

Kath, who has run a similar event before, said she had been contacted by various people about Neigh To Cancer and it looked like it was going to be held across the UK.

“That is very exciting and will raise much needed funds for Cancer Research UK,” she said.
