Super spuds and tasty tubers were on the menu at Calder Valley Organic Gardeners’ annual Potato Day.

The event, held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Mytholmroyd, was attended by more than 240 people who picked their favourite varieties of the potatoes on offer.

The best sellers on the day were Charlotte, Desiree, Sarpo Mira, Red Duke of York and Lady Balfour.

Onion sets and shallots also did a brisk trade.

Keith Williams, of Calder Valley Organic Gardeners, said: “We had another successful day at our annual Potato Day.

“The plant stall and garden book stall proved popular, along with stalls from Blackbark Woodland Management, Pextenement Cheese Company and West Riding Organics.

“The potato cafe provided a welcome selection of snacks and beverages for the potato enthusiasts.”

Bird boxes and garden trugs made from recycled materials were also available.

l Calder Valley Organic Gardeners’ next monthly meeting will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Mytholmroyd, on Thursday, March 6, at 7.30pm.

Karl Badger, from Saker Vegetarian Food Ltd, will give a talk about organic bread.
