Seeking to improve play areas

TOWN councillors will survey the playgrounds in their wards to identify areas of Todmorden where facilities could be improved.

Coun Margareta Holmstedt visited Todmorden’s primary schools during her mayoral year and consulted the children about the playground facilities in their area.

“I was incredibly impressed with the primary school kids,” Coun Holmstedt said.

“They were very polite and explained what they wanted and needed.”

She produced a written report of the findings, which she circulated among fellow town councillors.

In the coming weeks, councillors will survey the playgrounds in their wards to note the equipment provided, the state and usefulness of the facilities, and how many children use the playgrounds.

They will also identify areas without playgrounds where it is felt facilities are needed.

Members will report back in the autumn.

The town council will then look at developing a four-year plan to improve and enhance playgrounds in Todmorden.
