A WOMAN is doing a sponsored slim in support of a friend who is receiving treatment for cancer.
Nikki Widdup, of Portsmouth, has pledged to diet while her friend Michala Taylor, of Todmorden, is undergoing a six-month course of chemotherapy.
“I wanted to help her through it and raise some money for Macmillan Cancer Support,” Nikki said.
“I wanted to lose some weight so I decided to do a sponsored slim. I’m going until August.
“The motivation is to support my friend. She is going through a really difficult time with the chemotherapy but the bravery and courage that she has got is unbelievable.”
Nikki is aiming to raise £2,000 for the charity. She is circulating sponsor forms and is asking local shops to place Macmillan collection boxes on the counter.
“My husband is sponsoring me £1 a pound,” she said. “I don’t think he knows how much he’s going to have to pay out. I’ve got a lot that I want to lose.”
She is also hoping to raise awareness that more young people are being diagnosed with cancer.
