Students set to reach for excellence

TWO hundred A-level students, including a group from Calderdale, travelled to Leeds University last month for the start of an activity programme.

The ‘Reach for Excellence’ programme aims to help teenagers from disadvantaged backgrounds succeed in their studies and aim for a place at a leading university.

Between now and the summer of 2013, the students will be given advice sessions, subject workshops and academic taster sessions to help them to make decisions about courses and future careers.

Ceri Nursaw, from the university, said: “The support offers new, brighter horizons for these remarkable young people and will genuinely transform lives.”
