VOLUNTEERS and businesses are pulling out all the stops to clinch funding for a project to get Todmorden buzzing.
Bee Spoke Todmorden, a campaign to promote and sustain the lives of bees, will go head to head with another project in the Jubilee People’s Millions competition on ITV1 on June 29 as it attempts to secure £44,000 of funding.
If successful, money will be spent on installing interactive learning hubs, creating bee gardens to transform neglected corners of the town into natural havens, and developing a trail for people to take a sensory adventure around Todmorden.
Spokesperson Lauren Longshaw said: “Honey bees are one of the most important pollinators in the world. They account for up to a third of the food you will find on your table and generally help to keep our environment rich, fruitful and prosperous.
“Recent years have seen a huge decline in our bee population, which causes great concern for future production of our food and the quality of our natural environments.”
The project team is urging people to pick up the phone and vote when the lines open on the day at 9am. Lauren said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the public to get involved in making a real difference to the community in which they live.”
