VOLUNTEERS braved the wind and rain on Sunday to give their village a tidy up.

Residents joined members of Cornholme Community Project for a “Big Tidy Up” of their local area to ensure Cornholme is ready to welcome in the Spring.

Liz Hinchcliffe, CCP secretary, said: “We do this every year and have seen definite improvements.

“We did get wet in the rain but we were rewarded with pie and peas at the Working Men’s Club afterwards.”

A total of 25 people filled 25 bags of rubbish during the afternoon as volunteers got to grips with waste which had built up over the winter.

Calderdale Council gave the team a skip and also supplied litter pickers, gloves and bags.
