Earlier this term, our Year 10 Resistant Materials students were given a brief to carry out a makeover in the ‘Incredible Aqua Garden’.

This would be a great opportunity for the students to be able to put their skills into practise.

The students met with Aine Douglas and she set out the brief to the students.

They needed one of their empty spaces transforming into a demonstration garden which could be used to demonstrate and experiment with different types of growing.

The students were asked to deck the area and then construct some fencing and a gate.

They then needed to create some planters which would be mobile, so this would mean they needed to have a strong structure to support the weight of the soil but also be easily moved.

Finally, they were asked to construct trellises which would be used for growing.

Over five weeks the students have worked tirelessly to transform the area and they have thought carefully about the design to ensure that it met the brief which was laid out to them.

Some of the students even stayed during lunchtimes and after school.

The work was completed just in time for the Incredible Edible Conference on Saturday, October 25.
